Baggage allowance with Air France

The linear dimensions of your baggage at Air France must not exceed 158 cm in three dimensions. Any non-standardized baggage is subject to an additional fee (depending on the country of departure). Baggage must be labeled and well packed, the suitcase/bag must not have any chips or holes.

Extra space will need to be purchased for oversized and non-normalized loads. All sports equipment must be:

  • disassembled;
  • packed in a bag or container without cracks/punctures;
  • pre-registered;
  • if the equipment contains oil or pressurized gas, it must be drained.
Weapons may only be transported if they are authorized for that particular type of weapon. Firearms, airguns or arrows must be unloaded. They must be placed in a small case or protected container.

The following types of cargo are prohibited:

  • Strongly odorous or highly allergenic substances;
  • Explosives and any pyrotechnics;
  • Radioactive substances;
  • Strong oxidizers;
  • Removed batteries;
  • Acids and other corrosive substances;
  • Compressed or liquefied gas cylinders;
  • Pathogens and other biohazardous substances;
  • Small electrically-powered vehicles (sigways, gyroboards, scooters).

Carriage of gurneys and medical equipment in the baggage compartment is allowed only if it is checked in advance and placed in the baggage in a folded state.

Hand luggage regulations

Air France hand baggage allowance has been extended compared to other carriers. In economy class, one piece of hand baggage weighing up to 12 kg is allowed, in other classes – one piece up to 18 kg.

With the exception of baby food and medicines, liquids in containers with a volume of more than 100 ml are not allowed in hand baggage (the total volume of liquids must not exceed 1 liter).

Personal accessories and valuables should be placed in front of you on your lap or on the floor between your legs. A suitcase or backpack should be placed on a special shelf.

Animal transportation rules

Animals may only be transported if the animal has a valid veterinary passport with all necessary vaccinations. Dogs and cats with upturned noses are not allowed in the baggage compartment. Certain types of fighting dogs, the transportation of which is prohibited by French law, may also not be allowed on board.

The animal must be transported in a well ventilated carrier with a bowl of water/food attached. The carrier must be locked with a metal door with a lock. A well absorbent material should be placed on the floor. The size of the carrier should allow the animal to stand up to its full height.
